Mama Darlene's Children's Centre is a small-town project with big ideas. The school is committed to serving low-income families in Tala, Kenya. Many of the children attending here have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and live with grandparents. These grandparents are often very poor themselves and ill-equipped to raise a second family. Mama Darlene's educates the children and provides supportive services to many families. They have arranged for medical care, clothing, and food -- particularly in times of drought -- for many. They sponsored a dairy goat project, training family members to shelter, grow food, and care for their animals.

When Monica tragically and prematurely died in 2007 over 600 people attended her funeral, most arriving on foot.
